Photofacts Privacy Statement

Photofacts stores a number of details in order to make the website work. We also keep statistical information so that we can improve the site. If you register, we keep your details in our database. Registering is optional and is not needed to use the site. These details are not passed on to third parties.

Contact forms & e-mail

When you fill in and send a contact, sign-up or information form on our websites, or send us an e-mail, the details you send us are kept together with the technical characteristics of the message for as long as the nature of the form and of your message makes necessary or reasonable for a complete answer, for handling it and/or for accounting for it. Your message may also end up in our e-mail archive, where backup procedures and a statutory retention obligation may keep it for 7 years.

Google

Photofacts uses Google Analytics to keep track of its statistics.
We have signed a data processing agreement with Google, and we have chosen the safest available settings in Google Analytics. Your IP address is masked. All data Google Analytics keeps is anonymised.

Photofacts is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which means Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply as well.

Advertising

Photofacts also uses Google's advertising service, Google DoubleClick for Publishers, to show adverts on the website. We have configured Google DoubleClick so that no personal data is stored while those adverts are served.

Hosting

Photofacts and the database behind it are hosted by hosting provider Vevida. Vevida's databases are physically located in the Netherlands. We have a data processing agreement with them too.

Comments on Photofacts

When you post a comment on an article on Photofacts, the IP address you used is stored, along with the information you entered. You are not obliged to give any personal details when posting a comment.

Exceptions: misuse and legal obligations

Where in our judgement our facilities are being misused or used improperly, we may deny certain IP numbers and/or e-mail addresses access for a fixed or an indefinite period. In cases of misuse that harm the interests of third parties, we may make the relevant details available to those parties (provided there is a legal basis for doing so).

Photofacts will remove or amend comments posted under articles whenever it sees reason to.

In the event of misuse we may attempt to trace the details back to you personally — for example in order to contact you, a parent, guardian, teacher, supervisor, manager or similar, or to report the matter or take legal action.

Photofacts makes data available where the authorities require it to.
