Photofacts Comment Policy

We like it when you comment on our articles. Your response keeps the authors sharp and encourages them to write more often. We do ask that you stay friendly and, where you have criticism, that you make it constructive. This page explains how we handle comments and what we do and do not allow.

Always stay friendly

Always stay friendly when posting a comment. The rule of thumb is not to talk any differently than you would in an ordinary face-to-face conversation with friends. Try to be helpful in your comments, and keep things civil: no swearing and no rudeness.

Constructive criticism

We appreciate it when comments point out factual mistakes. Always do so in a friendly and constructive way, though — so no personal attacks on the author or on the person behind another comment.

We are also glad to hear a different view on the subject. Do say so when you disagree with something. We consider comments like that very valuable; they help others form a rounded opinion on the subject. Do put your view across in a friendly way, and stay open to the views of others.

Advertising

Links to relevant extra information are welcome in your comment. But the option to post comments is not there to advertise your own company or services (or those of other parties you have a relationship with).

Promoting affiliate links is not allowed either.

Spelling and typing mistakes

If you come across errors of style, spelling or typing on Photofacts, do let us know by e-mail or through the contact form. We do our best to avoid them and we are glad to hear about the ones that slip through, so that we can correct them.

In your message, let us know which article it concerns, where you found the mistake and what you believe the correct wording to be. Thank you in advance for helping to make Photofacts better!

Commenting under your own name

To keep things personal, we like it when you use your own name when posting a comment. You can also leave the name blank, in which case you comment as a 'guest'. That is fine, but do bear in mind that we look at anonymous comments more critically.

One thing that is definitely not appreciated is using keywords you would like to rank for in Google as the name on your comment.

So preferably just use your own name. There is not really any reason not to, is there? If you would rather stay a little more anonymous, use just your first name. That is nicer when someone replies to your comment too, because then they can address you by name.

Comments that are off topic

We like to see comments under an article that are about the subject of that article. So stay relevant, and do not start discussions that have nothing to do with photography. Comments like that are unlikely to be of value to other Photofacts readers.

Bots

Comments posted by automated processes are removed as a matter of course. Needless to say, that spam is not appreciated.

When your comment does not meet these rules

Where your comment does not meet the guidelines above, Photofacts reserves the right to amend or remove it without notifying you.

If you break the comment policy repeatedly, you may be denied access to Photofacts.
