Tonight was the first episode of the third season of The Perfect Picture. In this television programme on RTL4, Dutch celebrities compete to see who can take the best photographs.

Portrait

For their first assignment, the participants had to photograph each other. Working in pairs, they set out to create a striking portrait. The assignment was to make a photograph showing how the Netherlands saw that person.

Former Photographer Laureate of the Netherlands Ahmet Polat stopped by to give tips and also judged the photographs together with the jury.

The Perfect Picture - Lieke van Lexmond

Winning photograph from the first assignment by Lieke
Canon EOS M50 - f/20, 13 seconds, 100 ISO

Lieke won this assignment with her photograph of Ruben. In fact, she simply used the same technique Kim used for her selfie in season one: using a long shutter speed and then changing something during the photograph.

Lieke made Ruben pull two faces in two directions. A fun twist on the same technique, and with a good result. Would you like to make a similar photograph? In the video below, I show you how you can use this technique, based on Kim's selfie from two years ago.

Food photography

For the second assignment, the celebrities had to make a food photograph in tabletop style. Food photographer Niels La Croix came to help the celebrities and also helped with the judging.

The Perfect Picture - Marlijn

Winning photograph from the second assignment by Marlijn
Canon EOS 6D mark II - f/5.6, 1/160s, 100 ISO @ 50mm

The winning photograph was made by Marlijn and is indeed very successful. Excellent timing, even though the shoot had to be repeated because she apparently had a corrupt memory card in her camera.

In this first episode, nobody had to leave the programme, just as in the previous two seasons. Next week, all the participants will get to work on dog photography, in the water, and nude photography.

I thought it was another excellent start to the new season. The programme is still fun to watch and, although I don't even know some of the celebrities, they have once again found a fun group of participants.

What did you think of this first episode?
