I have a great passion for nature photography, especially birds. Fortunately, there is still plenty of nature to be found in Friesland, where I live, and with a good dose of patience and attention, you can get a long way.

I would like to share my experiences with you in the form of short stories.

1. Kingfisher versus Sparrow

These are the situations you don't often come across. A good dose of luck is very welcome here. I was focused on the kingfisher and alert to it taking off or doing something like that.

So when the sparrow landed carelessly, the kingfisher sprang into action. The sparrow was rather startled by it and I was very pleased with the shot below!

2. Redwing

In spring, you see lots of them, fieldfares and redwings coming to raid the last berries from the bushes. Here I found a higher vantage point so I could photograph downwards and use the grassland as the background colour.

3. Kingfisher pair

Many kingfishers did not survive the frost. Fortunately, this couple did. They were watching each other before taking action. By holding the lens diagonally, I managed to get them both in focus.

Say no and you get two
