Memory card manufacturer ProGrade Digital has announced a CFexpress memory card with 1 terabyte of storage. The card should offer read and write speeds of 1,400 and 1,000 megabytes per second respectively.

The new memory card uses the CFexpress 1.0 standard. Cards in the XQD form factor use two PCIe 3.0 lanes and the NVMe protocol, which is also familiar from high-end SSDs.
This allows read and write speeds of up to 2 gigabytes per second, much faster than regular memory cards.
The card was tested by Imaging Resource. Read and write speeds of 1,438 and 1,044 megabytes per second were achieved with a MacBook Pro. This was with a Thunderbolt 3 memory card reader. Delkin achieved similar results with a 512-gigabyte CFexpress card.
The new memory card standard from the CompactFlash Association should be backwards compatible with the XQD standard.
Cameras that currently support XQD could also support CFexpress cards via a firmware update, although they will probably not run at full speed.
ProGrade says the CFexpress cards will be available in 256-gigabyte, 512-gigabyte and 1-terabyte capacities when they are released.
ProGrade launched not only its upcoming CFexpress cards, but also a collection of V90-rated SD cards with maximum read and write speeds of 250 megabytes per second and 200 megabytes per second respectively. The cards will be available from early May in 64-gigabyte, 128-gigabyte and 256-gigabyte capacities.
