Yesterday, Apple announced the Vision Pro. This Augmented Reality headset seems to put all existing virtual reality headsets at a considerable disadvantage in a very clever way. Will this headset finally be the breakthrough for 3D photography too?
You can also use the Apple Vision Pro to take 3D photos and shoot videos directly. You have been able to do that for years already. Even analogue 3D photography was something enthusiasts did.
Apple is now making a device that can both take the photos and display the images nicely. More importantly, if Vision becomes what Apple expects it to be, we will all be wearing such a headset on our heads in a few years.
The Apple Vision Pro could easily bring taking and viewing 3D photos out of the niche.
What may still stand in the way of the big breakthrough is the purchase price. The Apple Vision Pro will have a starting price of 3,499 dollars. That is a lot, although you do get quite a lot for it.
It is, however, the first version so far. It should come onto the market at the beginning of next year. There is a good chance that a subsequent version will be a little more affordable.
