Portrait photography tip: Throw your model in the water

Last Friday, I had an outdoor shoot planned with a model. It was over 30 degrees, so rather warm. A good solution is to seek out shade and water. So that is exactly what we did.
In such warm weather, you certainly do not want to stand in the sun all day. Even in the shade, it is too hot to be very active. On a day like that, being near the water is already much more pleasant.
So model Hsun Yu and I went to a fishing pond near the Photofacts office. It was a comfortable place to spend time. The bank slopes down gradually here, so I could also go into the water without shoes and wearing my shorts to cool down.
Of course, do take good care of your equipment. Water and electronics generally do not go together very well. So make sure you walk carefully through the water and always place your foot firmly before actually taking a step.
The water is naturally pleasant for the model too in these temperatures. For the light, try to stay a little in the shade, or at least pay close attention to how the sunlight falls. It can produce overexposed areas that are difficult to correct.
The weather will remain lovely over the coming week, so it will still be a good time to get started with photography in and around the water.
