If there’s one subject you’ll always have access to, it’s yourself! In this video, three great ideas that can serve as templates or inspiration for trying out a few self-portraits.
Most photographers know very well which side of the camera they prefer to be on. But now that we’ve all been in quarantine for a while, with no clear end in sight, you may well be missing taking portraits.
For beginner photographers, practising on yourself as a model is also a good way to gain confidence before trying out your skills on other models.
Taking self-portraits in the early stages can be crucial for figuring out many things in a relaxed environment. Even the most patient partner or family member won’t want to sit still while you make countless micro-adjustments to the lighting and settings.
And even if you’ve been working as a portrait photographer for a while, that’s no reason to stop taking self-portraits. It keeps you sharp, and there probably isn’t much else to do in photography at the moment anyway. So it’s the perfect time to practise!
