Canon has released a new firmware update for three cameras. This firmware update mainly expands the video features of the Canon EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS 1D Mark III. If you own one of these cameras, you can install the update now.

The main focus of these updates, depending on the camera model, is the video functions of the three cameras mentioned. Filming at 120 fps in full HD is now possible, and IPB video files can be recorded at a lower bitrate for smaller files.

The Canon EOS R5 and EOS 1D Mark III now get Canon Log-3, which is also found on Canon Cinema EOS cameras, allowing you to benefit from a higher dynamic range.

For photographers, an option has been added to turn off the camera screen while shooting, while retaining the display, as with DSLR cameras.

More interesting is the support for full-time manual focusing with RF lenses, allowing you to take over manually in Servo AF. This update also makes it possible to save your camera settings to the memory card.

The firmware for the three cameras can be downloaded from Canon's download centre. There you will also find a complete list of the additions, changes and improvements this firmware brings to your camera.

A small update regarding the link to the Canon EOS R6 firmware update. Canon quickly took the first version offline because of some software errors. The updated firmware is now online. Had you already downloaded the old version? Then I recommend replacing it with this new version.
