Is the background behind your subject a bit dull? You can make a background more interesting by adding colour. Choose a trendy colour from your set of colour filters and put it on a flash aimed at the background.
When you take the photo, the background gets a different colour, making it more interesting than a neutral colour. Place the flash out of sight. You only want to see the coloured light, not the flashes.
Of course, you can also combine multiple flashes and colours. For example, in different corners of a room. Do not combine colours at random, but use colours that work well together.
