For a beautiful landscape photo, you would ideally want an exciting sky in the frame. But you do not always get that opportunity. This can be due to all sorts of circumstances that are beyond your control. There are ways to make it interesting anyway, even with a boring sky.

Nando, ik kan me heel goed vinden in hetgeen je schrijft over saaie luchten.
Ik vind een saaie lucht niet erg zolang het de foto niet overheerst en er voldoende elementen te ontdekken zijn die de foto spannend maken en de moeite van bekijken waard zijn.
De bewerkingssoftware geeft overigens voldoende mogelijkheden om wat te doen aan de saaie luchten. Je kan die vervangen door een andere lucht. Dat gebeurt meer dan je denkt. Het probleem is dan om de juiste lucht te kiezen, want het moet wel helemaal passen bij de rest van de foto. Juist daar gaat het nogal eens mis. Ik doel dan op sfeer, kleur in de rest van de foto, richting van het licht en schaduw enz.
Bovendien is het dan geen nabewerken meer maar manipulatie. Het is geen weergave meer van de werkelijkheid.
Daarnaast wordt het gebruik maken van Ai steeds realistischer waardoor je moeilijk of niet meer na kan gaan wat echt is.
Nando, graag verneem ik jouw mening over deze voortschrijdende techniek en het gebruik ervan in de fotografie.
In ieder geval vind ik de wijze van hoe jij omgaat met saaie luchten altijd nog beter dan de opties die er de laatste jaren bij zijn gekomen in de bewerkingssoftware.

Mijn mening is daar heel duidelijk in. Op het moment dat je een lucht vervangt is het fotomanipulatie. Je verandert de werkelijkheid voor iets kunstmatigs. Dat is dan voor mij niet langer een foto.

Nando, duidelijke mening, dankjewel. Ik begrijp dan niet waarom gerenomeerde software als Lr en Ps het zo makkelijk maken om de foto te manipuleren en luchten te vervangen. En dan komt er nog bij dat bekende fotografen het promoten (en dus ook zelf gebruiken). Als het maar oplevert in de portemonnee, denk ik dan.

Dat is niet zo moeilijk te bedenken. Software als Photoshop is niet per se bedoelt voor fotobewerking, maar voor het creëren van afbeeldingen voor veel verschillende toepassingen. Dat je er foto's mee kan manipuleren is niets meer als een van de toepassingen.
Dat ze te pas en onpas gebruikt worden om foto's te vervalsen ligt niet aan de software, maar aan de gebruiker. Je moet de oorzaak niet op de verkeerde plek leggen.

Ik deel de mening van Nando. Voor wat mij betreft ga ik liever terug naar de locatie om op een ander moment de foto te nemen, dit is toevallig bij mij vandaag het geval, dan de foto toch te nemen om niet met lege handen naar huis te gaan. De lucht vervangen is niet aan mij besteed. Ik wens de foto van het landschap dusdanig te bewerken dat ik er, hoe zou ik het noemen, een 'veredelde' voorstelling wordt van datgene wat ik heb waargenomen, niets meer dan dat.

En je reis naar "mooi landschapsland" ligt al zo lang vast, je kan niet even terugkeren. De compositie is de sleutel.
