When temperatures are just above freezing in the Netherlands or Flanders, there will often be snow in the Hautes Fagnes, south of Maastricht at an altitude of 700 metres. Planning a day in the snow? Use the Windy app to check the snow forecast.
Select your photo location in the app and go to 'Show more weather layers'. Then choose the 'New snow' layer to see how much snow is expected. Use the date slider to view the forecasts for each day.
Weather forecasts are fairly reliable in the short term: accuracy is about 90 per cent up to three days ahead, but drops to 60 per cent after seven days. Keep this in mind and use long-term forecasts as an indication, not a certainty.
By checking Windy regularly, you increase the chance of capturing a beautiful snow-covered landscape at exactly the right moment.
