Autumn is about to burst into life. A great time to head into the woods, with or without a model. Or perhaps bring the woods into your home studio. Last year, for example, I took this portrait with a dress made of leaves.
On the morning of the shoot, I went into the woods and collected a bag full of leaves. Of course, I did my best to choose the most beautiful ones, with plenty of colour variation in the leaf.
I laid the leaves out to dry in my studio, turning them over after an hour or so. In the afternoon, model Valeria arrived. She put on a summer dress, which we covered with the leaves.
I used double-sided tape to attach the leaves. Covering a dress like that is quite a job, but you can of course stick the tape to the leaves in advance.
I am very pleased with the result. Pleased enough to perhaps try it again over the next few weeks. And of course, you do not have to do it in the studio. In reasonable weather, you can also photograph such an autumn dress outdoors.
