Portrait photography tip: Focus on a detail

You don't always need to include the entire face in the photo to create a powerful portrait. You can also focus on a specific detail. This gives the photo a different feel than usual.

The eyes are an obvious detail to capture, but you could also take a photo where the mouth, or just one eye, of your model gets all the attention.
You could use a macro lens to capture a detail. This allows you to get really close to your subject while keeping all the details nice and sharp and visible.
Bear in mind that your depth of field becomes very small when you are this close to your subject. You then need to use smaller apertures, a higher number such as f/11, to retain enough sharpness.
