Portrait tip: The home environment as a prop

When you take a portrait photo of someone at home, it is nice to give the interior a role in the photo. A home's interior is where someone spends years of their life, and where many memories are made.

Just as people change over the years, so does an interior. When you look back at the photo years later, the memories of that time in that interior will come back by themselves.
You do not have to use someone's interior only as a background. Use a living environment as an opportunity to give your subject something to do in the photo. They could play a game, read a book or, for example, be baking a cake.
This produces beautiful portraits and helps your subject feel at ease naturally.
Another benefit is that you place your subject in a particular period. It is clear that the photo was taken during the time when they lived there and had that specific interior in their home. Especially when such a photo is viewed twenty years later, it becomes a source of memories.
