Portrait photography tip: Portrait without a face

When taking a portrait, it goes without saying that you expect to see a face in the frame. Of course, you can also move away from this to create a very different kind of photo.

You can of course debate whether a portrait without a face is still really a portrait. In many cases, you can still recognise the person in question this way, but it is of course a fairly unusual composition for a portrait.
I would especially recommend taking a few photos during a shoot where your subject's face is not in the frame. At the very least, this provides a nice change from the rest of the shoot and may give you some other creative ideas.
