There had already been plenty of rumours, but now it is official. Canon is working on a high-end EOS R mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS R5.

Canon EOS R5 specifications

- New full-frame CMOS sensor (probably 40 megapixels)
- Built-in image stabilisation (IBIS)
- 20 shots per second (12 with a mechanical shutter)
- 8K video
- 2 card slots

Canon EOS R5

Personally, I think this is a very interesting camera. It has been clear to me for some time that my next camera will be a mirrorless camera. This EOS R5 seems to have everything needed to become an excellent successor to my Canon EOS 5D mark III.

I have been able to try out the Canon EOS R and RP, and I liked both cameras very much. This R5 seems to offer a number of interesting upgrades on top of that, making it even more attractive.

Unfortunately, it is not yet known exactly when the camera will be released or what it will cost. A first prototype will be on show at a trade fair in Las Vegas at the end of this month.

7 new RF lenses

Canon also says that it is working on seven new RF lenses. These lenses have been specifically developed for the RF mount used on the EOS R cameras. Of course, you can also continue to use all EF lenses with an adapter.

These include an RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS telephoto zoom lens. Two RF extenders are also being released (1.4x and 2x).

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. I don't think that thing is going to cost 2000 euros when it hits the stores. I'm very curious what price it will get in NL! I suspect it will be 3k+. Just wait and see and maybe otherwise go for the EOS R.... if its price drops
