After weeks of rumours and leaks, Fujifilm has officially unveiled the long-awaited X100V: an APS-C fixed-lens camera with a redesigned lens, the latest-generation X-Trans sensor, a two-way tilting screen, 'optional' weather resistance, and much more.

The new Fujifilm X100V replaces the X100F, which was released more than three years ago, and comes with various improvements and updates that make the long wait worthwhile.

Exterior

On the outside, the body has several built-in and ergonomic improvements to the grip, an ISO dial and a lens barrel, plus the addition of a new two-way tilting touchscreen that folds flat against the back of the body.

Fujifilm has also added weather resistance, but with a warning: the feature is only available when you purchase and attach the (optional) AR-X100 adapter ring and PRF-49 protection filter.

Internal changes

Inside, you will find the latest fourth-generation 26.1-megapixel X-Trans BSI CMOS sensor and X-Processor, combined with a much sharper new 23mm f/2.0 lens that has been redesigned for higher resolution, lower distortion and improved close-focus performance.

Without sacrificing the built-in ND filter, now with 4 stops, or compatibility with the wide-angle and telephoto conversion lenses available for older X100 models.

There is also an improved hybrid viewfinder that lets you choose between an optical viewfinder with 0.52x magnification and parallax-correcting frame lines, a 3.69-million-dot OLED viewfinder with live preview, or an ERF function (Electronic Rangefinder).

This Electronic Range Finder function can also be selected to display a small electronic viewfinder in the bottom-right corner of the optical viewfinder, giving photographers another tool for framing and taking their images.

Finally, the camera does more than just take photos. You can also record 4K at 30p or 1080 at 120p video internally, with support for 10-bit, 4:2:2 colour via the HDMI port.

The Fujifilm X100V is available in both silver and all-black for a recommended retail price of 1,499 euros. The silver version will be delivered from the end of February 2020, and the all-black version follows in March.
