Fujifilm has announced a remarkable lens for its X-series mirrorless cameras today, the Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR. The first f/1 lens for mirrorless cameras with autofocus.

The lens will particularly appeal to portrait photographers who like very shallow depth of field in their photos. The lens has 12 elements in nine groups. The aperture blades are rounded for a nicely round and soft bokeh.
Focusing is possible (with the Fujifilm X-Pro3 or X-T4) down to -7 EV. Even in the light of a half moon, you should still be able to focus.
Speaking of focusing, unfortunately you cannot get very close to your subject. The minimum focusing distance is 0.7 metres. In my view, this is quite a major drawback, but of course it depends on your style of photography whether this will bother you much.
The Fujifilm 50mm f/1 is 10.35 centimetres long and weighs 845 grams. The filter thread is 77mm. Quite a large lens, especially on the compact Fujifilm cameras. However, the lens is said to be well balanced.
Price and availability
The Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR should be available by the end of this month and will cost 1,599 euros.
