Fashion photographer Frank Doorhof is the distributor for this British company in the Netherlands and sent me the ProFabric SeaFoam (PFL 866) to review.

ProFabric material

Click Props Backdrops has several types of material, ProFabric and Mat Vinyl. The roll I tested is made from their 'ProFabric' material. This is a woven polyester material that looks a lot like canvas or fabric.

Durability

If all goes well, a backdrop like this should last a very long time. In theory, this backdrop should still be in good condition after 25 years. If they get dirty, they are said to clean up well, but I decided not to try this.

If you get tired of this backdrop, it should still be worth something on the second-hand market. Or you could swap it for a similar roll from another photographer. Frank has set up a special Facebook group for exchanging backdrops.

Size

Keep the height of the backdrop roll in mind. This review sample is 2.72 by 2.72 metres. That is fine in many cases. In a studio, however, paper rolls are often hung higher. If you use such a roll holder system, there is a chance that the backdrop will not reach the floor.

Of course, you can always choose to use a mobile studio set that works with two light stands. This lets you adjust the height to exactly where you want it.

Click Props Backdrops also offers various sizes. Larger and smaller sizes are available too. So you can choose a longer one if you have a higher studio.

The backdrops are considerably more expensive than a standard paper roll, but you do get something nice in return.

The 272 by 272 centimetre version of the model I reviewed, made from ProFabric material, costs 500 euros. Prices start at 115 euros and go up to more than 750 euros.

For an amateur photographer who enjoys taking photos in their home studio now and then, these backdrops are not a very logical choice. If you are a portrait photographer with regular clients in your studio, however, I think a Click Props Backdrop is more than worth the money.

My review sample has been returned, but I would not rule out a Click Props Backdrop finding its way into the studio in the future.
