The old masters all photographed in black and white. Not because they liked it, but simply because colour did not exist yet, or was too expensive.
Because all those old masters made such fantastic black and white photos, many photographers think black and white photography is better, or more beautiful, than colour. Nonsense, of course. It is simply a personal choice or preference.
If you want to get started with black and white street photography, check whether you can set your camera to black and white. You can often do this using, for example, a creative filter (Sony) or a preset (Fujifilm).

Je kunt er dan altijd zwart wit van maken als je wilt. omgekeerd is natuurlijk niet mogelijk en soms is een foto in kleur mooier waarmee het jammer zou zijn als je die niet in kleur zou kunnen hebben. Ik vind het dan ook niet de beste keuze je toestel op zwart wit te zetten.... Maar ook dat is een persoonlijke keuze.

Dat ligt eraan. je kan je camera op zwartwit zetten, maar wel in RAW fotograferen. Dan zie je dus een Z/W foto, maar je RAW bestand is nog steeds in kleur. en dan kan je er later nog steeds een kleurenfoto van maken als je wilt.
Fotografeer je in jpeg, dan kan het niet. -

Zwart/wit en kleurenfotografie heeft elk zijn eigen zeggenschap. Voor de kleurenfotografie is Fred Herzog een goed voorbeeld.
