Street photography tip: Take an overview shot

If, like me, you walk around a different city every week, it makes sense to take an overview shot now and then. It helps you understand the setting of the rest of your photos.
I have sometimes photographed so many details or isolated people in a day that, three weeks later, I could no longer quite remember where and when I took those photos.
An overview shot is a great help then. You simply capture the station, town square or beach for reference. A photo with a street sign is welcome too. Besides being a useful reminder for yourself, you can of course also use an overview shot in a series you make of a particular place.
Sometimes I also take a photo of a place simply because I need to come back there another time. Maybe the light is not quite right that day, or there are no people, but the place has a lot of potential. A quick mental note!
