The city gives you, as a street photographer, plenty to work with. You can use long shopping streets filled with unexpected people, or seek out a quieter area and use the taller buildings in your composition.

Many street photographers have a regular home base, a city where they photograph regularly. Amsterdam and Rotterdam are fantastic, of course, but you can really go for it in any city.
The common factor is activity. Go to the city when the shops are being restocked. Or on late-night shopping evening. The Saturday morning market gives you so many photo opportunities!
My tip: If you know a street photographer in a particular city, just ask if you can join them for a bit sometime. Most of the street photographers I know secretly really enjoy showing people 'their' city.
There are also regular opportunities to take part in street photography workshops in the bigger cities. Highly recommended!
