Master Pye Jirsa at SLR Lounge recently teamed up with Adorama to create a useful series of tutorials called Mastering Your Craft, and in the latest episode he tries to teach you 20+ poses for couples in less than 10 minutes.
This is actually part II of Pye's 'crash course in basic poses'. In part I, he discussed the five 'basic poses' you need to learn first: V-up, closed pose, open pose, reverse pose and stacked pose.
In part II, he expands these five fundamental poses into a 'system' that lets you switch between 20+ variations and draw more emotion and energy from your couple.
The video is about more than remembering 20 or more 'poses' that make your couple move in a robotic way. The most valuable part comes after your subjects have started posing, which becomes clear when you watch Pye work with and direct his couple in the video.
The pose is the basis and gives him a great starting point, but it is his directions and the way he gives them that lead to the best, most authentic shots.
