Photo experiment: shooting a portrait at 900mm

Photographers and YouTubers Manny Ortiz, Irene Rudnyk and Gerald Undone recently teamed up for something completely ridiculous. During Sony's recent Kando trip, they were given a model, attached a 600mm f/4 lens to a Sony a6400 and tried to shoot some portraits at 900mm.
You can imagine how this went. Even headshots required so much distance between the model and photographer that someone soon shouted: forget those full body shots!
See the setup below:

Have a Sigma 150-600, and indeed sometimes it's fun to do, portrait at a distance. That Sigma also has VC, so it works handheld. I don't know any full-frame 900mm lenses, but it would be way too heavy, so it would only work from a tripod, "spring" at a distance, but not fun anymore.

@ Toon :. This lens has VC and and with 800 or even higher ISO you can easily use 1/1000 or faster. Then it will work, really. And it's not 900, but 600 on a crop camera.

I do the same with that Sigma 150-600, and you'd be amazed at how well that works.
Have your say
