As a photographer, there is a good chance you will be asked to photograph a wedding, even if you have no experience with it at all. This book about wedding photography can be useful preparation for such a day.
And that preparation is not unnecessary, because photographing a wedding is a high-performance sport. You have to be ready everywhere on time and you cannot miss a moment. What is more, you cannot simply do many moments again.

The book consists of nine chapters:
1. Preparation
2. Promotion & marketing: the basics
3. The business side
4. Technique
5. The day, part 1: the ceremony
6. The day, part 2: working on location
7. After the day: delivery, terms and presentation
8. The latest ideas and possibilities
9. Your first wedding
The book contains many practical tips to help you arrive well prepared for the wedding day and take the right photos at the right moment.
The business side also receives plenty of attention. There are tips on the content of your website and setting your prices. Marketing through social media is also covered, of course.
The process of getting the assignment is also discussed in detail. This includes how to talk to a couple and how to draw up a contract.
Wedding Photography contains photos by the author as well as by several other professional wedding photographers. You will find photos by Moniek van Gils, Alexandra Vonk, Yves Schepers, Ruud Claessen, Ashvin Ghisyawan, Denise Motz, Bas Uijlings and Gert Huygaerts.
As well as showing their photos, the book also includes interviews with all of them. This is a nice addition, with different insights into photographing weddings. The interviews also contain plenty of practical advice.
Conclusion
The book Wedding Photography provides a fairly complete insight into the world of wedding photography. It is a useful starting point for anyone who wants to get started in wedding photography and certainly also a good source of inspiration for photographers who already photograph weddings.
The interviews are a nice addition to the tips and offer a glimpse into the businesses of various top photographers. Their photos also appear throughout the book and will certainly provide plenty of inspiration.

Hendrik wrote on Tuesday 16 February 2021 at 11:48 | replyI also immediately checked whether there are other books about wedding photography, but they aren't that easy to find. And I still know Ashvin from my time at EOSDigitaal.nl and got to admire quite a few posts by him there. I've reserved it and am curious.

Despite having been photographing for 45 years, I only did it once. It was in the early '80s for a colleague who didn't have the financial means to hire a photographer. I wouldn't have been blamed if it didn't go entirely well. But I found it quite a burden. It all went well, especially because I got help from a female driver of one of the cars who had experience with the procedures. Just imagine that back then you still had to focus everything by hand. It is and remains top-level sport indeed! On top of that, you also have to be creative and keep up with the latest trends. I laugh my head off at the questions in a Sony Facebook group where people who don't know anything about it ask what the best cameras and lenses are for wedding photography. Imagine having them as your photographer...
