Two weeks ago, I had a shoot with model Jade. Although the weather was not really that great yet, we chose to shoot in the forest. Even a small patch of woodland often gives you plenty of opportunities for fun photos, especially if you bring along some clothing and props.

Jade reading

Jade - f/3.2, 1/250s, 100 ISO @ 150mm

For this kind of location shoot, I usually bring my camera bag, a bag with flashguns, a bag with light modifiers and a bag with clothing and props.

I have collected the clothing over the years by occasionally ordering something new from sites such as Vinted. I usually find the items in charity shops.

I often buy something because I have a specific image in mind for a shoot in the near future, but usually they are perfectly useful for later sessions as well.

Jade walking

For this shoot, I brought a summer dress and an old book, among other things. The dress immediately gives the photos a summery feel, and a book is always useful for giving your model something simple to do, such as reading.

Getting your model to do something often naturally results in more natural photos. Personally, I usually prefer that to posed photos where the model looks straight into the camera.

By the way, I took the photos above with my Canon EOS R5 fitted with an EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS lens. A great combination for this kind of photo.
