Portrait photography tip: Light from lamps

You can easily use the light from lamps in your home as your light source. It is a good idea to block out daylight by closing the curtains. Mixing two different light sources can result in a difficult colour cast.

A light source is softer when it is larger and closer to your subject. Useful to remember when you are working with available lamps.
Don't be afraid to increase your camera's ISO sensitivity to prevent shutter speeds that are too slow. With most modern cameras, you can easily use 1,600 or 3,200 ISO.
