If you have several studio flashes, it's tempting to use all of them straight away when you start taking photos. Instead, try starting a shoot with just one flash. One flash is perfectly capable of creating beautiful portraits.
It's always a good idea to start a shoot simply and gradually build it up with several lights.

The advantage of starting with one light is that you can really see the effect of your main light. Try having your model turn their face towards the light, and then away from it. You can see how much effect the direction of the light has on the mood you create with your photo.
Challenge yourself to get everything you can out of your photos during the first hour using just one light. You'll discover that you can create beautiful photos this way.
