Panasonic's S-series full-frame cameras is being expanded with two new models, the Lumix S1II and Lumix S1IIE. Both cameras are suitable for photography and video, with major improvements to video technology.
The Lumix S1II has a new partly stacked 24.1-megapixel CMOS sensor. The sensor offers up to 15 stops of dynamic range in V-Log video. You can record in 4K at up to 120 frames per second, and at 60 frames per second in 5.8K.
For photography, the S1II offers a maximum burst rate of up to 70 frames per second. You have access to a pre-burst mode that starts capturing images up to 1.5 seconds before you fully press the shutter button.
The Lumix S1IIE is almost the same camera. Its sensor is the same as the one in the Lumix S5II and has 24.2 megapixels. You can take continuous shots at up to 30 frames per second. For video, Open Gate video at 6K 30p is supported.
Both cameras have the latest Phase Hybrid AF with subject recognition and improved eye and face detection. It is all powered by AI, with dedicated recognition functions for urban sports.
The cameras have built-in image stabilisation of up to 8 stops and special video distortion correction. The electronic viewfinder has 5.76 million pixels, and the fully articulating LCD screen has 1.84 million pixels.
The Panasonic Lumix S1IIE will cost 2,799 euros, and the Lumix S1II 3,499 euros. This is for the camera body only. Both cameras will be available from early June 2025.
