Sigma has announced the 28-105mm f/2.8 DG DN Art lens. It is designed for the L-mount and E-mount. The lens gives you a constant aperture throughout the zoom range. It will be available this month.
The lens covers the popular focal lengths of 28mm, 50mm and 105mm in a single lens, with a maximum aperture of f/2.8. This does make the lens larger and heavier, but it remains under 1 kilogram.
The lens has 18 glass elements in 13 groups, with two fluorite-like F-low dispersion (FLD) elements and a super low-dispersion (SLD) element. It also has no fewer than five aspherical lens elements.
Sigma has both photographers and videographers in mind with this lens. The latter in particular will appreciate the minimal amount of focus breathing. There is also a manual aperture ring with switchable click sounds.
The lens does not have internal zoom, so it will become longer when zooming. The minimum focusing distance is 40 centimetres, with a 1:3 magnification.
The lens is available for L-mount and Sony E-mount and will cost between 1,500 and 2,000 euros.
