It has been a thorn in the side for many people: there are no lenses from other brands for Canon mirrorless cameras. That is finally about to change. Sigma and Tamron have announced the first lenses with an RF mount.
Are you using a Canon mirrorless camera? Then you could only buy RF lenses from Canon. Apart from a few manual focus lenses, there were no autofocus lenses from other brands available. Of course, you could use EF lenses with an adapter.
For some reason, Canon did not allow other brands to use the RF mount. That has now changed, because both Sigma and Tamron have been given permission. The first lenses have already been announced.

Sigma is coming with no fewer than six lenses that are already available for other lens mounts. These will be the 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN, 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN, 16mm f/1.4 DC DN, 23mm f/1.4 DC DN, 30mm f/1.4 DC DN, and the 56mm f/1.4 DC DN.

Tamron is taking things a little more slowly with the 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060).
There is still a catch. For now, these are all lenses for APS-C cameras, not full-frame cameras. Of course, these lenses can also be used on full-frame cameras. They will then switch to a 1.6x crop.
However, it is a good sign, because this means that the full-frame lenses will not be far behind. At least, that is what I expect.

Translated from Dutch.
The advantage of the RF lenses compared to the EF lenses is the weight. Canon's RF lenses are considerably lighter. Hopefully that will also be the case with Sigma and Tamron. I have a few lenses from Ttartisan with an RF mount that are fully manual and because the housing is made entirely of metal, they still have quite a bit of weight.
I do think it is a shame that Sigma and Tamron do not yet offer RF lenses in the telephoto range.
