Sony announced a new lens last Tuesday, the Sony 135mm f/1.8 G Master. This lens is ideal for portrait and wedding photographers thanks to its wide aperture and creamy background blur.

The lens weighs 950 grams, making it noticeably lighter than many comparable lenses, although it is still quite a substantial lens. It fits perfectly on the Sony a7r mark III, which I tried it out with in practice. So it should also feel good in the hand on another a7 or a9 camera.
The lens focuses nice and quickly. Focusing is also very quiet. The lens can focus from 70 centimetres, which is fine for a 135mm lens, to infinity. If you want, you can limit the focus to between 0.7 and 2 metres, or from 1.5 metres to infinity.
The photos I took with this lens are razor-sharp. The background blur, or bokeh, is also remarkably beautiful, and thanks to the eleven aperture blades, highlights remain nicely round even at f/4.

The lens has an aperture ring that lets you set the aperture in one-third stop increments. Personally, I always find such a ring a welcome addition and a pleasant way to work with your aperture, but of course you can also set the aperture on the camera, or have the camera determine it.
It is also notable that you can set the aperture ring to 'de-clickable'. The change in aperture then happens smoothly rather than in steps. Handy for videographers.
