LuminarAI will edit your photos for you

Skylum, the maker of photo editing software Luminar, has announced that LuminarAI will be coming soon. LuminarAI uses artificial intelligence to edit your photos for you.

Skylum has not yet made it very clear how LuminarAI will work. The software has knowledge of thousands of (edited) photos and will suggest edits for your photos.

You can then decide whether or not you want to use the suggestion. You can also make adjustments to the proposals.

Suppose, for example, that you want to replace the sky in one of your photos. LuminarAI will search through your photos of skies for suitable skies for your photo and correct the colours where necessary. You will see the result and can then choose to keep it or try again.

Portrait photographers are also helped with automatic adjustments to the body, face, eyes and imperfections.

These are things that are already possible with Luminar. The big difference is that you have to think less about which adjustment you want to make: the programme suggests what would work, according to LuminarAI.

If it appeals to you, you can already buy LuminarAI at the 'early bird' price. You then pay 79 euros instead of 99 euros. This price applies to the first 30,000 customers.

Luminar AI probably will not be released until the end of this year.

I am curious to see how this will work in practice. At first, most photographers will want to do their own editing. If LuminarAI manages to learn your editing style and edit photos to your taste, it could still become quite a success.

Until then, you can of course already achieve great results with Luminar 4, which Skylum says will continue to be developed as normal.

If you need help editing your photos with Luminar 4, we have a practical Luminar 4 course at Photofacts Academy.

I now have Luminar 4.3 but the only thing I use it for is replacing skies. The program is very slow. My configuration is a Medion Akoya i7, 32GB internal memory, SSD card, 2GB Nvidia. Personally, I find Lightroom with all its possible prests more pleasant and faster to work with.

For example, I’ve recently started using Skylum’s Aurora package, and I have a favorite setting there, yet you still use your own interpretation in it. So yes, AI can certainly help, but taking over completely, I don’t think so.

I now use Luminar 4, Will there be a special offer for AI for Luminar 4 users. Otherwise, it comes across to me as a money grab.

@Jan; As an existing user, you can buy AI with an additional 10 euro discount. So for 59 euros now.

To do that, just click the inconspicuous link all the way at the bottom left of the page at: 'Customers of previous versions of Luminar or Aurora HDR can buy LuminarAI with loyalty discount.'

I still see (and use) Luminar mainly as a 'fun' addition alongside LR. I did take advantage of the €59 offer now, but I did have my doubts because the latest released version 4.3.* doesn't quite start properly etc. (see the Skylum forum, where many people are having problems with it).
Anyway, I am still curious about their additions to this AI version, but imo they remain pretty clever when it comes to the marketing surrounding this vrolijk.
