During a workshop in Paris, the teacher told me to avoid cars in my photos as much as possible. I wondered why she had made this comment. Cars place a photo in a particular time period. It actually makes perfect sense.
I am now firmly convinced that there are more types of street photographers than there are players in a football team. One documents the present, and wants to show someone with a mobile phone in colour.
The other wants a timeless black-and-white photo, and hates all those people on their phones. It is a choice. But what I do know for certain is that my street photos are better without cars. A car is a prominent element that often distracts attention. I usually avoid them.
You can often do that by taking a lower viewpoint and pointing your camera upwards, or by isolating your subject and not photographing the entire street from left to right. Or simply walking into a pedestrian area!

Als je kijkt naar de voorbeeld foto, dan kan je die ook in een bepaalde tijd plaatsen ivm laptop tas.
als je er fietsen op heb staan, dan staan die ook voor bepaald tijdsbeeld.
En als je in een oude straat een persoon met lange jas en hoed fotografeer, en er staat een electrische step, dan heb je ook een tijdsbeeld.
Enige reden waarom ik auto's probeer te vermijden op straatfoto's, is omdat ik het persoonlijk vaak niet mooi vind. -

@Mac, dat is een legitieme reden. Jouw persoonlijke smaak. Je ontkomt er niet aan. Je zal altijd een element in beeld krijgen die een bepaald tijdsbeeld geven. Een tijdloze straatfoto maken is gewoon onmogelijk. Je moet het doen met het decor wat je voor handen hebt.

Of je kiest bewust voor de auto die juist een meerwaarde geeft of juist niet. Het ligt helemaal aan je onderwerp en wat je wilt laten zien.
