Where can people admire your photos?

Taking photos is a great pastime. It doesn't matter whether you do it professionally or as an amateur. Photography is fun, but showing your work can bring even more satisfaction. How lovely is it to exhibit your work? Where can people admire your photos?

You usually take photos because you enjoy doing it. The aim is to create beautiful images. That can be for yourself, and usually that is the best starting point too. Unless you are taking photos on commission, of course, because then it is not for yourself.

Taking photos for others, on commission or for charity, is very rewarding. I always think it is fantastic to see that my client is happy and satisfied with the photos I have taken. That gives me satisfaction, and it makes my photography worthwhile.

Nando wedding reportage

Producing a wedding shoot, with albums full of fantastic memories, is quite a highlight for me as a photographer.

Taking photos for yourself is worthwhile too, or it can be. Printing your photos in a book or album gives you many opportunities to look back. It doesn't matter whether they are from a holiday or a selection of your best images from each year.

Or you can view them on a computer screen or on TV. In a slideshow or simply as individual images that you browse through yourself. And yet, how satisfying is it when you can let others enjoy your work?

A slideshow of my photos of Bruc on YouTube

An exhibition is of course fantastic. Your work printed out or displayed in large format for people who come especially to see it. That is often not within everyone's reach, because it is an investment. The alternative is an online exhibition or portfolio.

My exhibition in Poland. Displaying your photos this way is fantastic.

My photography online

You can have your own website where you show your work, or use an existing photo community website. I use Flickr.com and Viewbug.com for that purpose. And I have my website where I can show images in my blogs.

Where can people find your photography?

Do you also have a website or another place where you show your photos? I would like to invite you to post a link to your photos in the comments below this post. I hope this will help you reach even more people.

I will certainly take a look at your online photo space. Will you do the same? It is also a great way to find new inspiration.

For the photo club, I have a photo printed at A3 size almost every month, I plan to make space for that at home and hang up a (changing) selection.

You can find me on Flickr. For now still a free account, until I reach the limit.

What I see a lot of photographers doing is publishing on Instagram, and nowhere else: I think that’s such a shame: you use expensive equipment to take beautiful photos, but show them in a small format with prescribed ratios.

    Nice to see your photos.
I also saw a lot of 'snapshots' among them, and a whole series of similar photos of kitesurfers.
If you want to get the most out of your free account, only post your best images. That way you can really turn it into a portfolio vrolijk

On Facebook it's easy to let the footballers or clubs have a look. Not such a bad idea in itself, I think.

I was planning to clean up many of the old photos, including the snapshots indeed, at some point. I still have enough space on my free account.
Maybe I should indeed do that sometime soon to build a nicer, real portfolio.

I have been involved in photography for over 46 years. After some wandering around with my own website, Instagram and Flickr, which did not satisfy me, I ended up on Facebook. I post at least one photo daily and regularly an album. I consider Facebook a solid alternative to my former website. My profile: https://facebook.com/francis.decrocq

I have had my own website for several years now (which I built myself, alongside other websites that I build). Exhibitions of my photos have also been displayed several times in care and nursing homes. Also in a theater, a community center and a hospital. Sometimes I remove photos from my website and/or put other ones on it again. Unfortunately, due to health problems, not much has come of photographing over the past few years. Fortunately, things are getting better, so I can devote more time to my photography hobby again.

I've had a website for years. Since the end of 2014. But not a single person looks at it. What is unknown is unloved,.

I've been a member of a photography club F70 in Rijswijk, South Holland since 2017.

There are good photographers in it and average ones, and unfortunately those who really try but just don't have it in them.

Nice initiative. I completely agree: photos are meant to be shown. For example, there are about 10 prints hanging in my house, 30 x 60 cm. There is a stick in the TV with folders of photos per holiday, occasion, report.
Sometimes I put something on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100070922940327

And I have my own website with my photos and some stories, which you can find at: https://fotografie.gertvaneck.com/

    You’ve challenged me!
I’ve actually been wanting a place to show some of my photos for a while now. Inspired by your course on Lrc modules, I’ve already tried something on youtube and had a go at creating my own website. The latter failed miserably. Too complicated for me.
Inspired by this article, I created an account on Flickr. (Elisabeth Verkade)
Now I just need to muster the courage to put some photos on it! I always find it difficult to judge what’s actually worth showing.

Years ago, I posted photos and other things of mine on DeviantArt. It is an interesting community because of the deviant concept, but not so much for photography, I think. As a result, it quickly becomes saturated.
Instagram I use more as a graphic platform and not specifically for photos. In my opinion, it is also absolutely not suitable for displaying the work properly. The resolution is reduced and the compression is too high.
Because I felt that all the effort of tuning my photos in terms of colour and resolution for Instagram was wasted effort, I created an account on Flickr this year.
Because I also still have a lot of photos from my analogue era, I add these from time to time as well.
I don't necessarily see Flickr as a portfolio, but rather as a way to also give the photos I feel are worth posting a quality reproduction.

I post my better work on youpic.com https://youpic.com/Strangefella With the free version you can upload (only) one photo per 12 hr, which makes you rather selective about what you present. If you want to publish several images at once, you have to switch to the pro version, which is paid again, as is usually the case.

Interesting article. I had a large website with my (amateur) photos and stories about travel and nature. I stopped doing that for two reasons: the GDPR, which I could not fully comply with because of the external modules I used on my website, and the great lack of interest. Nowadays I post my photos (especially of animal behaviour) on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/frans.vanderkolff). It is only a hobby, but the interest in it has increased by a factor of 1000 since switching to Facebook.

Thank you for your response. What you say about discoverability is true. But despite the necessary 'advertising', first on forums and later also on Facebook, the discoverability and the number of responses on the website did not improve. I also had my Facebook page alongside my website for quite some time - there were hardly any people who went from one platform to the other. It may be due to the effectiveness of my 'advertising', but the difference in the number of responses on the website and Facebook was striking.
