In the semi-final of The Perfect Picture, the three remaining Dutch celebrities took on a free shoot in which they had to create a triptych. In the second assignment, they had to photograph free runners in the Bijlmerbajes.
Free assignment
For the free assignment, the celebrities had to make a series of three photos that told a story. Quite a tough assignment. At least, I find that pretty difficult myself.
Ryanne made it difficult for herself by choosing a subject that, in my view, contained rather less emotion. Jim and Patty understood it better in that respect.

Jim made a series about his grandfather, who still misses his wife every day after 10 years. Well thought out and well executed. In my view, he rightly received a comment about choosing a portrait-oriented photo in which his grandfather stood in front of the cupboard. That photo would have been better in landscape orientation.
I would therefore have chosen to take all three photos in the same landscape orientation. I think the series sometimes looks better that way.
Patty also had a suitable subject: a 4-year-old child with cancer. During the shoot, there was a beautiful moment when the young boy showed his sadness while his mother was busy with his treatment. I had tears in my eyes.
If Patty had included that image in her series, I think she could have won this assignment. However, she now had two images that were close to each other in terms of emotion and story, which made the series much less powerful.
The celebrities were also free to choose which camera they wanted to use, the compact, mirrorless or DSLR, and all three shot with the Canon 6D mark II DSLR.

Free runners
For the second assignment, the celebrities were allowed to photograph free runners in the Bijlmerbajes. Freelance photographer Rein Rijke was the guest judge at this shoot and gave the celebrities practical tips.
The candidates used a Canon EOS 6D mark II with a 16-35mm f/2.8 L mark II lens.

Patty rightly won this assignment with the photo above. Jim and Ryanne did not do badly at all either, incidentally.

In the end, Ryanne was eliminated and next week Patty and Jim will go to Costa Rica for a portrait and nature shoot in the final.

First Jim's photo gets completely torn apart because of the poor post-processing and then still gets a higher score than Ryanne's photo. -

In my opinion, Ryanne should have gone through. It almost seems like they really wanted these two in the final because their ideas about photography aren't as different as Ryanne's
