Tonight was the penultimate episode of Het Perfecte Plaatje this season. The three remaining Dutch celebrities took on an underwater shoot and created a series about their own past.
Underwater Profession
The first assignment was to take an underwater photograph. The contestants had to photograph a model in a swimming pool, showing a profession.
The expert helping the Dutch celebrities with this shoot was underwater photographer Noustha Koeckhoven. We have actually seen Noustha on Het Perfecte Plaatje before, during an underwater photography assignment.
For this shoot, the three participants used a Canon Powershot G7X mark III compact camera in an underwater housing. The advantage of a compact camera in this situation is that the chance of getting a good, sharp photo is much higher.

Bibi took the winning photo, but all the contestants were very close, with low scores.
I really did not think Stefano's strong vignetting, or 'torch effect', was acceptable. The jury had less trouble with it.

Home assignment
The home assignment is: 'Take a spectacular underwater photo with a person or animal!'
Not really an ideal assignment to get started on right now, with these temperatures. I prefer taking this kind of photo at 30+ degrees.

Back to my roots
For the second assignment, the photographers had to create a series of three photos. They were given more time for this and were allowed to think about the assignment for longer than usual.
Documentary photographer and permanent jury member Cynthia Boll gave the contestants instructions for this assignment. They also received help in the form of an extra person, someone for the lighting, someone for the editing, or help from Cynthia during the shoot.
For the shoot, they used the Canon EOS RP mirrorless camera and could use various lenses, such as the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L, the RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro or the EF 50mm f/1.8.

Stefano won this assignment with a strong score of 9. He took quite conceptual photos, which clearly went down well. He also won the entire episode with them.
Personally, I thought Bibi's series was the clearest. It tells a good story without needing too much background information to understand it.
I found Janny's series rather unclear. There was also a lot of variation in style between the photos. The first photo of the pheasants in particular differed quite a lot, even in terms of format.
Personally, I have very little affinity with the series Stefano made. The story that went with it was quite interesting and certainly adds something to the photos. From a photographic point of view, I did not find it very impressive. And he had even been given someone to help with the lighting.

Exit for..
The surprise at the end of the programme was that nobody had to leave this week. They all go through to next week. Someone will be eliminated early then, though.
Next week
Next week is the final of this season of Het Perfecte Plaatje. The Dutch celebrities will do a nature shoot on Vlieland and a superhero shoot.
