Tripods have seen little innovation in recent years. LumaPod hopes to change that with its completely new tripod, currently being promoted on Kickstarter.
The LumaPod is considered the world's fastest tripod, while also being very compact. It uses patented tension technology to stabilise your photos without immediately weighing a ton.
It comes in two models, the Go85 and Go120, for different camera formats and can also be used as a monopod and selfie stick.
Unlike traditional tripods, which rely on three legs attached to a centralised column and mounting point, the LumaPod actually consists of two tripods. One of them folds into a single tube that looks like the handle of a lightsaber (Star Wars).
The base of the LumaPod is similar to a standard tripod, as it uses three rigid aluminium legs to keep the whole thing upright and stable. These low-profile legs serve as mounting points for a telescopic column and three Kevlar cables that hold the central column in place using tension.
The Go85 LumaPod weighs just 400 grams, measures 85 centimetres and can support cameras weighing 1 kilo. The larger Go120 weighs 690 grams, measures 120 centimetres when closed and can support 2 kilos of camera equipment.
The Go85 includes a collection of accessories designed to get the most out of photographing with smartphones and GoPro cameras, while the Go120 includes a compact Z-plate for more versatile mounting of mirrorless and DSLR cameras.

Other accessories are available as add-ons through Kickstarter. These include a Bluetooth remote control, quick-release plate, travel strap, compact ball head and more.
The tripod legs of both LumaPods are modular and can be adapted to your photography needs. They can be swapped for rubber feet, terrain levellers, dolly wheels and other accessories simply by exchanging them. LumaPod claims that it takes just four seconds to set up the tripod.
It remains to be seen how stable this setup is, but it is an interesting design that could work very well for smaller camera setups.
The Go85 is expected to be shipped from 69 euros, while the Go120 starts at 85 euros. Both models are expected to be delivered in May 2019. For more information, you can follow the Kickstarter campaign.
Note: Supporting a project on Kickstarter is not the same as buying something in a shop. There is always a chance that the project will ultimately not be completed and that you will never receive your product. Something to bear in mind.

Translated from Dutch.
When it is fully extended, it is top-heavy. So from a physics point of view not stable. With a bit too much wind, the chance of it tipping over is considerably greater than with a normal tripod.
