Canon has announced a new compact camera this week, the Canon PowerShot V1. The camera is aimed at vloggers and content creators and has a relatively large sensor. For now, it does not appear to be coming to Europe.
The camera has a 22-megapixel Type 1.4 format Dual Pixel AF CMOS sensor. It measures 18.4 by 12.3 mm, which is roughly comparable to the Micro Four Thirds format, but with a 3:2 aspect ratio. The sensor does appear to be a variant of the excellent sensor in the Canon R7, although slightly smaller.
The camera has a 16-50mm lens and can record 4K video. Video is an important part of this camera anyway. Recordings can be saved in 10-bit Canon Log 3. The camera can also be used as a streaming camera.
With a microphone and headphone socket, you can also record sound properly and listen to it live. You can also use extra audio accessories on the multi-function hot shoe. There is also a built-in 3-stop ND filter.
The Canon PowerShot V1 will become available at the end of April 2025 in Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
