The new M10-R is characterised by its 40-megapixel sensor. Leica users have apparently been asking for this for some time. It is a substantial jump from the 24 MP sensor that was available until now.
Although the sensor has more pixels, Leica promises better dynamic range and lower noise levels than its predecessors. The M10-R also has an almost silent shutter, which is up to 50% quieter than the original M10 version.

The back of the camera has room for a 3-inch LCD touchscreen, with an improved menu and an easier way to change settings. It is not entirely clear how much functionality the touchscreen will have, but swiping through your photos is possible in any case.
Leica has very deliberately chosen not to build a video option into the M10-R. The idea behind this is to keep the camera simple, keeping photography as pure as possible.

The appearance of the Leica M10-R has largely remained the same. The body is minimalist, as you would expect from a camera in the M10 series. The best thing is that you can still use the old lenses, and they can produce beautiful results when you stop down a little.
The Leica M10-R has an ISO range of 100 to 50,000. Nothing has changed there. You can now set shutter speeds of up to 16 minutes before you have to activate the bulb function. Fortunately, this new model also has a spirit level.

With all these updates, combined with the high resolution, the Leica M10-R seems to be aimed at landscape photography. You do have to dig quite deep into your pockets if you want this camera, though. It is therefore not for everyone.
The Leica M10-R will be available worldwide from 20 July 2020 for 8,125 euros. You can choose between black/chrome and silver/chrome.
