Panasonic has released the Leica DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 25-50mm/ f1.7 ASPH lens. The lens is designed for micro four-thirds systems, giving you an angle of view equivalent to 50-100mm on a full-frame camera.
This new zoom lens offers an aperture of no less than f/1.7 throughout the entire zoom range.

Panasonic calls it the first telephoto zoom lens with f/1.7 throughout the entire zoom range. This makes the Leica DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 25-50mm/ f1.7 ASPH a truly unique lens.
On a micro four-thirds camera, which this lens is designed for, you have an angle of view equivalent to that of a 50-100mm zoom lens.
This zoom range is fantastic for portrait photographers. The focal length provides both the angle of view of a standard lens and that of a typical portrait lens. With an aperture of f/1.7, you can achieve beautiful shallow depths of field, regardless of which focal length you have chosen.
The Leica DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 25-50mm/ f1,7 ASPH is a perfect addition to the existing Leica DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 10-25mm/ f1,7 ASPH. It has the same controls, making it easy to switch between the two lenses.

You can switch the focus of this lens between linear and non-linear. In addition, so-called focus breathing is minimal, and the aperture can be adjusted steplessly. Filmmakers will certainly appreciate this.
The minimum focusing distance of the Leica DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 25-50mm/ f1.7 ASPH is 0.28 centimetres at the wide-angle setting and 0.31 centimetres at the telephoto setting. This achieves a magnification of no less than 0.42x.
Price and availability
As far as is known, the Leica DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 25-50mm/ f1,7 ASPH will be available from around September for an expected price of approximately 1,800 euros.
