Ricoh has announced two new compact cameras, the Ricoh G900 II and the G900 II SE. Tough cameras that can take a knock. Both 20-megapixel cameras are mainly intended for use in a business environment.
These latest models are designed to be much more robust than the average waterproof compact camera. They can withstand salt, ethanol and disinfectants. This makes them suitable for use in medical environments.
Both cameras are waterproof to a depth of 20 metres, shockproof when dropped from 2.1 metres and able to withstand a pressure of 100 kilograms. They can also function at temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius.
Both models are equipped with GPS, while the SE version also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. The cameras allow you to set a password to lock the camera or specific functions and menus.
The Wi-Fi-equipped 'SE' model can be managed remotely. For example, to update the firmware or synchronise the time on multiple cameras.
You can also use both cameras as a webcam, in Full HD at 30 fps. They also have 6.5 gigabytes of internal storage. This means the cameras are also easy to use without having to work with separate SD cards.
The G900 II and G900SE II will be available from the end of August for around 800 euros. The SE version costs around 100 euros extra.
