Sony has just announced a brand-new full-frame camera: the Sony A9 Mark II. A new powerhouse for sports photographers in the Sony Alpha line.
Specifications
- 24-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor
- 20 frames per second
- An improved BIONZ X image processor
- Improved dust- and moisture-resistant design
- Latest image processing algorithm to reduce noise
- 5-axis image stabilisation with a shutter speed advantage of 5.5 stops
- Dual SD slots, both compatible with UHS-I and UHS-II SD cards
Looking at the specifications, the new Sony A9 Mark II is clearly focused on speed, durability and ergonomics. The new model can shoot continuously and completely silently at 20 frames per second, for up to 361 JPEG images or 239 compressed RAW images.

The Sony A9 Mark II is also very suitable for shooting in harsh conditions. Ideal for experienced sports and news photographers because of its improved dust- and moisture-resistant design.

This is without black-outs, allowing the photographer to follow the subject and the action while taking pictures. The Sony A9, its prestigious predecessor, first appeared in 2017 and put an end to the slower speed performance of other models.
That Sony is once again bringing a new powerhouse to the market is impressive. The camera can perform automatic autofocus and automatic exposure calculations up to 60 times per second.

Sony listens carefully to its audience and always tries to include professionals' feedback when creating new cameras. Jelger Annegarn, Marketing Manager Digital Imaging Sony Benelux, explains:
Feedback from professionals is absolutely crucial to Sony. The α9 II is the direct result of feedback sessions with sports and news photographers since the launch of the original α9.
Our engineers have added connectivity and networking options that dramatically improve the professional workflow, while also making subtle adjustments to the design, interface and processing power
A number of professionals have already been able to test the camera, and you can view their experiences below.
