Canon has announced an upgrade to the two most popular lenses in the L-series. These are the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lenses.
The new lenses serve both advanced amateur and professional photographers with a wide range of applications and solutions, including wildlife photography, portrait photography and sports photography, Canon announces.

The Canon EF 70-200mm lenses are a popular option for photographers who need a wide zoom range while retaining a relatively compact design.
Air Sphere and Fluorine coating
The new 70 - 200 mm f / 2.8L IS III is the latest version of the top-level 70 - 200 mm 'workhorse lens' used by professional photographers. One of the important new features of the lens is the addition of Air Sphere Coating (ASC), which suppresses light reflections and flare.
A fluorine coating has been applied to the front and rear, which should reduce smears and fingerprints. In addition, colour aberrations are corrected, guaranteeing high contrast.
Image stabilisation
The optical image stabilisation in the lens offers 3.5 stops of correction. That is actually less than the 4 stops of correction offered by its predecessor, the 70 - 200 mm f / 2.8L IS II.
Canon says that the optical elements in the lens remain unchanged from its predecessor. It appears that the optical image stabilisation system is the same, and Canon simply measures it at 3.5 stops versus the 4 stops it claimed for the Mark II version.
Other features of the lens are exactly the same as those of its predecessor: it has an internal focusing system with an ultrasonic ring motor, a minimum focusing distance of 1.2 m, 23 lens elements in 19 groups and a circular aperture with eight blades. This ensures even exposure and a lovely bokeh effect.
Faster and more accurate focusing
Thanks to the new control CPU and firmware, the lens can autofocus faster and more accurately. The AF is also quiet and can be adjusted manually from a focusing distance of one metre.
