Nikon has announced a new lens for its Z cameras today, the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. A lovely fast standard lens.
Nikon has already released a 50mm f/1.2 S and a 50mm f/1.8 S for its Z system. The f/1.2 is expensive and heavy, while the f/1.8 is more affordable and lighter. In theory, this 50mm f/1.4 sits nicely between them.
This f/1.4 does not have the S designation, though. Nikon uses the S designation for lenses with even higher quality. So it will be interesting to see which one performs better in tests. The f/1.4 is at least a little cheaper than the f/1.8 S.
The new 50mm f/1.4 weighs 420 grams, 5 grams more than the f/1.8 S. It can focus from 37 centimetres. The lens has 9 aperture blades and an extra customisable control ring, for example to control the aperture.
The Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.4 will be available from the end of September 2024 at a recommended retail price of 559 euros.
