Ricoh has announced the Pentax K-3 III. A 26-megapixel camera with quite a few improvements over the Pentax K-3 Mark II.

Pentax K-3 Mark III

Pentax K-3 III specifications

- 25.7-megapixel BSI-CMOS APS-C format sensor
- ISO sensitivity: up to 1,600,000 ISO
- SAFOX 13 autofocus with 101 autofocus points (25 cross-type)
- In-body image stabilisation (5.5 stops)
- 4K UHD video (30p)
- Weather-sealed
- Weight: 820 grams

It sounds like a nice camera, although I personally would not be so quick to choose a DSLR these days, and would buy a mirrorless camera instead.

Dutch photographer Mike Muizenbelt has been able to use the camera for a few months and has published his (English-language) experiences online today.

Price and availability

The PENTAX K-3 Mark III will be available from April. You can choose between a black or silver body.
The recommended retail price is 1,999 euros.

For the launch, both versions will be available in a limited premium kit (1,000 units worldwide) with a second battery, D-BG8 grip and exclusive leather carrying strap. The recommended retail price for the premium kit is 2,299 euros.

If you already photograph with a Pentax DSLR and have built up a good collection of lenses over time, it is not at all illogical to consider this successor to the K3II.
Switching to a mirrorless camera means changing brands, and that is an expensive affair if you also have to replace your lenses, not to mention the fact that Pentax does not offer a mirrorless camera and has indicated that it is not going to do so either. I will also be buying this camera in time.

@Cees and Mac; Yes, indeed. If you already have a Pentax, then this upgrade is not strange at all.

Pentax does have a mirrorless camera. it was just too early for its time. This is the K-01, which all lenses can be used on.

Yes, that's right, that K-01, it's a shame they didn't continue that development.
