Sony has announced a new lens: the FE 28-70mm f/2 GM. This lens is one stop faster than an f/2.8, which is ideal for low-light photography. It is the counterpart to the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L.

The new lens has a constant aperture of f/2 throughout its zoom range. There are three extreme aspherical (XA) lenses, three super ED lenses, three aspherical lens elements and an ED lens element. The nano AR coating II has also been applied.

This is part of the 20 lens elements divided into 14 groups. Despite this, the lens weighs just 912 grams and is approximately 14 centimetres long. For comparison, the Canon RF version weighs 1.4 kilograms and has the same length.

Like many other GM lenses, the FE 28-70mm f/2 GM has an aperture ring and lens buttons. The autofocus is fast enough to keep up with the 120 frames per second of the Sony A9 III.

the lens will become available in mid-December at a price of 3,599 euros.
