Sony has announced the new A7 V, the fifth generation of this popular Alpha 7-series camera. It has also announced the FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II, a compact and lightweight standard zoom lens.
The Sony A7 V is the fifth-generation full-frame camera in this series. The camera has a new Exmor RS CMOS sensor with 33 megapixels. This is combined with the BIONZ XR2 processor for the AI functions.
The A7 V has significant performance improvements in every area. These include real-time image recognition and AF tracking. The camera has a shooting speed of up to 30 frames per second and improved colour accuracy.
The 759 phase-detection points cover 94% of the image area, and the autofocus works down to -4 EV. The camera is up to 30% faster at image recognition. Precapture is available for up to 1 second before fully pressing the shutter button.
For video, there is 7K oversampled 4K 60p and 4K 120 in APS-C Super 35 mode. Image stabilisation consists of Dynamic Active Mode for even better stability when shooting video.

Alongside the A7 V, the new FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II standard zoom is being announced. This all-round lens has been developed to work seamlessly with the A7 V. It can support tracking at up to 120 frames per second.
Price and availability
The Sony A7 V will be available from 2 December 2025 at a recommended retail price of 2,999 euros. The FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II will be available from February 2026 for around 479 euros.
