In the series of "The story behind a plug-in", this time I look at the Keyword Exporter plug-in, a completely new plug-in.

The essence

As a photographer, I want to be able to dynamically export photos to different directories / folders depending on the photo. For example, all staff members in folders / directories by region or by employee, or ... All product photos in folders by product or by supplier, or ...

Lightroom can only export to one fixed directory and not to different directories depending on a photo. For some photographers, this is restrictive because they have to perform extra manual steps afterwards. This is time-consuming and also prone to errors.

Curious? Then watch the YouTube demo below:

Origin

This plug-in originated from a custom development project for a professional photographer. More about that later. During export, he wanted to be able to automatically save the photos in different folders, depending on the photo.

The plug-in uses keywords for this. You can specify which keywords should or should not be used, using a white list or black list.

The product description lists all the options.

Examples

  1. For an online shop, all product photos need to be exported to directories by product, product group or supplier;

  2. A photographer is commissioned to photograph all employees. The requirement is that, upon delivery, all photos must be supplied in a separate folder / directory for each employee. Or all employees by region.

Lots of options

Usually, it is not desirable to create a directory for every keyword during export. The plug-in is prepared for this. The user can specify which keywords may or may not be used. You can also always create and use fixed directories, independently of the keywords.

KeywordExporterOptions

White list

With a “white list”, you can specify which keywords result in a directory. The rest are ignored.

Black list

Conversely, with a black list, you can specify for which keywords no directory should be created. This is then done for all other keywords.

Custom development projects

Sometimes I receive requests to create a Lightroom plug-in. If the plug-in could also be interesting to other users, I offer the client the option of creating the plug-in for them, while taking on part of the development costs myself, with the right to sell it myself afterwards.

A win-win for both parties. In some cases, this is undesirable because of a competitive advantage.

Trial version & sales

You can find the (trial version of the) plug-in on the Photographers-Toolbox.com website. The trial version can process a maximum of five photos at a time.

Feedback

Do you also experience the restriction of not being able to dynamically export to directories depending on the photo? Then describe your situation below. I am very curious.
